Fritz J. Pichardo Marcano

I am a second year Ph.D. student in the Mast lab. I enrolled the Ph.D program in FSU on 2018. Prior coming here I have focused on floristics and biodiversity research during my bachelor's degree and later expanded my expertise towards phylogenetics and biogeography along my Master's degree at Memorial University of Newfoundland. I am also very enthusiastic about database and application development (with Python and R) that would help solve problems in the area of biodiversity informatics and herbarium focused research. My research interests include topics related to phylogenetics and biogeography of plants, especially in tropical ecosystems, biodiversity informatics research, and using the multiple dimensions of biodiversity (e.g., phylogenetic and functional diversity) to further understand the evolution of plant communities and create better conservation efforts.

Tools:

I like developing tools that would be useful for biodiversity research and biology in general. I usually program in Python and database management systems like MySQL and MongoDB.
